On an experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST) called China «artificial sun», were able to achieve an increase in plasma temperature up to 100 million degrees °С and heating power 10 MW.
The experiment was carried out on the world’s first superconducting tokomak with a non-circular cross-section, which was developed and constructed by the Institute of Plasma Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. According to scientists, the results obtained are close to satisfying the physical conditions necessary to create a future stationary thermonuclear reactor and provide mankind with clean energy..
The device was named «artificial sun» due to the fact that it creates the necessary conditions for nuclear fusion through the fusion of atoms, as in the cores of stars.
However, unlike celestial bodies, the tokamak does not use ordinary hydrogen, but its isotopes (deuterium and tritium), which are extracted from sea water.
The successful EAST experiment was an important step towards the creation of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). IN the development of which 35 countries participate, including Russia, China and the USA.
Scientists are working on more than just creating «artificial sun», but also invent new ways of storing the energy coming from the present.
